As a sociologist, multimedia artist, filmmaker and writer, Dr. Robert Spiegelman writes, lectures and presents widely about the web of ongoing relationships that connect Native American, New York, Irish and Environmental themes. He is the founder of ThenAndNow.us, a unique online historical trilogy (consisting of SullivanClinton.com, Derryveagh.com and StakedPlains.com). His work explores and visualizes lost and hidden histories and actual historic-natural sites that link the past and present, and that promote indigenous values of peace, democracy and nature-in-balance. A college teacher for 12 years and a non-stop public educator, he is a member of the NY Council for the Humanities select Speaker’s List, and holds a Masters in Philosophy from Michigan and doctorate in Sociology from the CUNY Graduate Center. He teaches Sociology at York College, City University of NY and advocates for visual literacy.
